We have developed our own narrative theory around the construction of chapters through BIPs: small paragraph-based compositions that come together to form an ideal final chapter. These paragraph structures help define a satisfying chapter length when the writer has not yet mapped out the book in detail. In our method, BIPs become parts that are duplicated, refined, and improved in style, always keeping the chapter final goal in view.
